2026 ROBOT-TEST COMPARISON

Comparisons / TaylorMade

TP5 vs TP5X

Choose TP5 when softer feel and iron control lead your decision. Test TP5x when you prefer a firmer response and want to compare a little more short-wedge spin.

THE QUICK DECISION

Choose by the flight you need.

Model names do not decide fit. Start with the differences that solve a problem in your game.

CHOOSE

TP5

93 compression · 5-piece urethane

  • You want TaylorMade’s softer tour feel
  • Iron spin matters more than a firm response
  • You prefer the more controlled-feeling option

CHOOSE

TP5X

98 compression · 5-piece urethane

  • You like a firmer, faster sensation
  • You want to test the higher-flight model

SIDE-BY-SIDE TEST DATA

What changed at 100 mph.

These averages come from the same independent robot-test conditions. They build a shortlist; they do not predict your exact numbers.

01 · DRIVER

Speed and flight

The 100-mph robot results were much closer than the model names suggest: carry differed by only 0.1 yard and apex by 0.2 foot. TP5 recorded 0.9 mph more ball speed, so neither model owns an automatic driver-distance advantage.

02 · APPROACH

Spin and stopping

TP5 produced 317 rpm more 7-iron spin in this test, while descent angles were nearly identical. Players choosing TP5x for height should confirm the result with their own launch conditions.

03 · SCORING

Wedge and feel

TP5x led the 35-yard wedge spin result by 260 rpm. That is meaningful evidence for a shortlist, but cover feel and rollout on your normal greens still deserve an on-course comparison.

Buy one dozen of each.

Use the same course, clubs and shot sequence. A fair head-to-head tells you more than switching balls randomly.

COMMON FITTING QUESTIONS

Before you choose.

Which is longer, TP5 or TP5X?

At the 100-mph robot speed, TP5 carried 258.9 yards. The gap was 0.1 yards, so launch and dispersion should still influence the decision.

Which ball produced more 7-iron spin?

TP5 produced 6,283 rpm of 7-iron spin, 317 rpm more than the other model in this test.

Should swing speed decide between them?

No. Swing speed selects the closest test bracket, but your launch, spin, apex, descent angle, dispersion and feel preference determine which profile is more useful.

What is the best way to test the two balls?

Play both from the green backward: chips and putts first, then a repeatable wedge and mid-iron shot, and finally the driver. Choose the ball that improves your most important shot without creating a new problem elsewhere.
